Middle Eastern Harem Background

This background is based off images of Topkapi Palace's harem. A harem is the section of a house meant for women in historical Islamic cultures like the Ottomans (who built Topkapi palace) and the Arabs. Topkapi palace was constructed in the 1400s, after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople (now Istanbul). Through different wall patterns and rendering, the background could be used for Ottoman, Arab, Roman, or Byzantine-inspired settings for your visual novels. 

The background has been designed to allow for users to color it themselves. It is unfinished intentionally (and I discourage use in the initial form aside from as a placeholder). Think of this background like a coloring sheet for you to use for your visual novel. 

You will receive:

• The ability to download any of the associated files: krita file, photoshop file (untested), an uncolored png, and a color-blocked png (with different regions for color set up to be colored differently)
• The ability to use these files for backgrounds in non-commercial projects (including as stream backgrounds). However, after the close of the MVNA 2026 jam period, you must email me at cydewyn@gmail.com if you wish to gain a commercial use license.

You may:

• Use the files in non-commercial projects including comics, streams, videos, and games royalty-free under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license
• Modify to fit your game (please note if you heavily modify the design in your credits)
• Leave a comment below to share how you used the file

You may not:

• Use the files for AI training or to sell NFTs
• Redistribute or resell the files on your own, even modified versions. For example, in your own asset pack.
• Use without attribution (suggested: include a link to this asset in your credits)

This asset pack was created as part of the Make Visual Novel Assets 2026 Jam, which is hosted by DevTalk. 

Notice: the file is larger than fits in the standard 1920x1080 background size. You will have to crop it to suit your game. I left it at full size to permit clipping to the desired sections so you can mimic characters moving around the room.
